Greta Gerwig's adaptation is beautifully performed — Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, and the ensemble cast are exceptional — and Alexandre Desplat's score pairs with Yorick Le Saux's warm, luminous cinematography to create a visually distinguished film. The non-linear narrative structure adds some freshness to a well-known story, but the source material is so familiar that novelty remains moderate. The ending, while cleverly meta, feels slightly over-engineered in its self-awareness. The plot, drawn faithfully from Alcott's novel, is episodic by nature and doesn't transcend its adaptation roots. A warm, accomplished film with genuine craft highlights.
