The Quartile Take

The Siege of Jadotville tells a largely unknown but compelling true story of Irish UN peacekeepers making a heroic last stand in 1961 Congo, giving it strong novelty marks for shining light on a forgotten chapter of history with a distinctive Irish perspective. The plot is straightforward and functional, serving the action well without deep character development beyond Quinlan. Acting is solid across the board with Jamie Dornan delivering a credible lead performance. Cinematography is competent and serviceable for a Netflix war film, capturing the African setting adequately without standout visual ambition. The ending is the weakest element — the real-life aftermath of the men being abandoned and receiving no recognition is historically important but lands as deflating and unresolved dramatically, leaving viewers frustrated rather than catharted, which undermines the film's emotional payoff.
