A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
The 2022 Hellraiser remake is a competent but uneven reimagining of Clive Barker's mythology. The addiction metaphor is an interesting angle but is underdeveloped and the plot meanders without strong momentum. The acting is serviceable with Jamie Clayton bringing genuine menace to Pinhead, elevating the cenobites visually and tonally. Cinematography is polished and atmospheric with solid production values for a Hulu release. Novelty is limited — while the gender-swapped Pinhead and some fresh cenobite designs offer minor distinctions, it fundamentally retreads familiar ground without meaningfully expanding the lore. The ending is anticlimactic and fails to deliver the visceral or emotional payoff the premise promises.
