The Devil's Candy is a lean, atmospheric horror film with strong visual craft — director Sean Byrne uses oppressive red-hued cinematography and heavy metal aesthetics to create a genuinely unsettling mood that stands out in the possession subgenre. The father-daughter dynamic adds emotional grounding and Ethan Embry delivers a committed physical performance. However, the plot is fairly thin, relying on familiar possession and serial killer tropes without fully developing its satanic themes, and the ending feels rushed and undercooked, failing to pay off the tension built throughout. It's stylistically confident but narratively modest.
