Pop star Christopher Wilde has fame, fortune and a big-budget Hollywood movie awaiting him. But after meeting Jessica Olson, a down-to-earth girl from the Midwest, he is faced with following his heart or doing what's best for his career.
Starstruck is a likable but formulaic Disney Channel TV movie that hits every expected beat of the ordinary-girl-meets-pop-star romcom. The plot is entirely predictable with no real surprises, recycling well-worn Cinderella and celebrity romance tropes. The young leads (Sterling Knight and Danielle Campbell's predecessor, actually starring Brandon Mychal Smith and Chelsea Staub) bring decent charm and energy to their roles, elevating the material modestly. Cinematography is functional TV-movie standard with little visual ambition. Novelty is low — it's essentially a gender-swapped Cinderella story dressed up in pop-star clothes, very close in DNA to other Disney Channel movies of the era. The ending delivers the expected feel-good romantic resolution with a fun musical moment that satisfies its target audience, earning a slight bump.
