Hell House LLC (2015)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Five years after an unexplained malfunction causes the death of 15 tour-goers and staff on the opening night of a Halloween haunted house tour, a documentary crew travels back to the scene of the tragedy to find out what really happened.

The Quartile Take

Hell House LLC is a competent and genuinely effective entry in the found-footage horror subgenre. Its setup — a haunted house attraction that becomes actually haunted — is clever and lends itself well to slow-burn dread, with the creepy mannequins and clown figures delivering real scares. The plot is serviceable but leans heavily on found-footage conventions and leaves too many threads unresolved. Acting is functional but uneven, as is typical for the subgenre. Cinematography uses the handheld format effectively to build tension and atmosphere. Novelty is modest — the haunted-house-within-a-haunted-house conceit gives it a distinctive hook, but it doesn't reinvent the found-footage wheel. The ending is its weakest point, collapsing into ambiguity that feels more like budget limitation than intentional mystery.
