A romantic drifter gets caught between a corrupt tycoon and his voluptuous wife.
Orson Welles's noir masterpiece is visually stunning, with the iconic hall-of-mirrors shootout and Acapulco yacht sequences representing some of cinema's most inventive cinematography. Welles and Rita Hayworth deliver magnetic performances, and the film's surrealist expressionist style is utterly singular. The plot, however, is notoriously labyrinthine and somewhat convoluted, and the ending, while visually spectacular, leaves narrative threads unresolved in ways that feel more muddled than deliberately ambiguous.
