Fahrenheit 451 (2018)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 2 ratings

In an oppressive future, a 'fireman' whose duty is to destroy all books begins to question his task.

The Quartile Take

This HBO remake of Bradbury's classic fails to capture the depth of the source material. The plot simplifies and modernizes in ways that feel reductive rather than revelatory, losing much of the novel's nuance. Michael Shannon and Michael B. Jordan are capable actors but are poorly served by a thin, underdeveloped script that doesn't give their characters room to breathe. Visually it has some sleek moments but leans heavily on generic dystopian aesthetics. As a remake of both the novel and the 1966 Truffaut film, it adds little new perspective, and the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying compared to its source.
