Los Angeles, June 21st, 2028. While the streets are being torn apart by riots, the Nurse, who runs a clandestine hospital for criminals in the penthouse of the Artemis, a closed old hotel, has a rough night dealing with troublemaker clients: thieves, assassins, someone from the past and the one who owns the place and the whole city.
Hotel Artemis has a genuinely intriguing premise — a criminal hospital in a near-future riot-torn LA — and a strong ensemble cast (Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Jeff Goldblum) who deliver committed performances. The production design and cinematography give the Artemis itself a moody, distinctive look. However, the plot fails to fully capitalize on its setup, feeling thin and overstuffed simultaneously, with underdeveloped subplots and characters who deserve more screen time. The ending deflates rather than delivers, resolving its tensions in a fairly perfunctory way. Novelty gets a modest bump for the concept and atmosphere, though the execution doesn't fully distinguish it from other dystopian crime films.
