Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids (2016)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

In January 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the final nights of the "20/20 Experience World Tour", director Jonathan Demme captures what makes the show soar: gifted musicians, deft dancers and a magnetic star.

The Quartile Take

Jonathan Demme brings his trademark intimate concert-film craft to JT's spectacular 20/20 Experience tour finale, capturing the energy and choreography with dynamic, beautifully composed camerawork that elevates the format. Timberlake is a magnetic, charismatic performer and his backing band (the Tennessee Kids) genuinely impress, giving the 'acting/performance' dimension real weight. However, as a concert documentary it has minimal narrative plot beyond the show itself, and while polished, it doesn't reinvent the concert film in the way Stop Making Sense did. The ending simply closes out the show without a particularly memorable cinematic flourish.
