Held captive in a futuristic smart house, a woman hopes to escape by befriending the A.I. program that controls the house.
Tau is a competent but largely unremarkable sci-fi thriller that relies on familiar 'captive befriends AI' tropes without adding much new to the subgenre. The plot is predictable and thinly constructed, following a well-worn escape narrative. Acting from the leads is serviceable but unimpressive, though Gary Oldman's voice work as TAU adds some interest. The production design and cinematography are slick and professionally handled, elevating the visual presentation above the script's limitations. Novelty is low as the concept—sympathetic AI in a sinister smart home—has been well-trodden ground. The ending resolves predictably without any meaningful subversion or emotional payoff.
