The Domestics (2018)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A young husband and wife must fight to return home in a post-apocalyptic mid-western landscape ravaged by gangs.

The Quartile Take

The Domestics is a fairly derivative post-apocalyptic road thriller that borrows heavily from The Road and The Warriors without adding much new to the genre. The gang designs are visually interesting and the lead performances from Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin carry the film above its material, but the plot is formulaic survival-horror with predictable beats. The cinematography captures the bleak Midwestern landscape adequately but without distinction. The ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, failing to deliver meaningful resolution to the central relationship dynamic that the film teases.
