When strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, people are drawn outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Now the band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.
Skyline is a low-budget alien invasion film that struggles most with its plot — the script is thin, the characters are underwritten, and the narrative goes almost nowhere for most of its runtime. Acting is passable but unremarkable, carrying little weight given the weak material. Cinematography is serviceable given the budget constraints, with some decent visual effects but nothing distinctive in framing or composition. Novelty is limited; while the alien designs have some imagination, the core concept and execution follow familiar invasion-movie beats. The ending is bizarre and abrupt in a way that feels unearned rather than boldly unconventional, though it at least tries something different with the protagonist's fate.
