Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
A college student, who sees a UFO, uses his exceptional math skills to investigate the sighting with his friends while the FBI follows closely behind.
UFO (2018) takes a grounded, mathematically-driven approach to the alien contact genre, which gives it a modest degree of novelty — using number theory and academic settings rather than spectacle. The plot is engaging enough in setup but loses momentum as it progresses, with the mystery partially undermining itself by the finale. Acting is serviceable with solid work from the leads but nothing memorable. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable, lacking visual distinction for a sci-fi thriller. The ending is the weakest link — it feels anticlimactic and fails to fully pay off the intrigue built earlier, leaving audiences underwhelmed relative to the film's ambitions.
