Hell Fest (2018)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

On Halloween night at a horror theme park, a costumed killer begins slaying innocent patrons who believe that it's all part of the festivities.

The Quartile Take

Hell Fest is a competent but largely by-the-numbers slasher that leans on its Halloween horror theme park setting as its main hook. The premise has genuine atmosphere potential and the cinematography makes reasonable use of the neon-lit carnival setting, but the plot is formulaic with thin character development and predictable beats. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable, and the ending tries for a twist but lands as a disappointingly brief coda that feels tacked on. Novelty is limited — while the amusement park setting adds mild visual interest, the film recycles well-worn slasher tropes without meaningfully subverting or elevating them.
