As a young scientist searches for a way to save a dying Earth, she finds a connection with a man who's racing to catch the last shuttle off the planet.
IO is a slow-burn post-apocalyptic sci-fi that leans heavily on familiar tropes — dying Earth, last survivors, existential debate about staying vs. leaving — without bringing much fresh perspective. The plot meanders and the central philosophical tension never fully resolves in a satisfying way. Acting from Margaret Qualley and Anthony Mackie is decent but constrained by thin characterization. The cinematography captures a desolate, muted aesthetic that fits the tone but rarely rises to memorable visual storytelling. The ending is ambiguous in a way that feels more unearned than thought-provoking, leaving viewers underwhelmed rather than reflective. Overall a middling entry in the post-apocalyptic genre.
