Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
On the day the Riverton Ripper vanished without a trace, seven children were born. Today, they're all turning 16... and turning up dead.
Wes Craven's late-career misfire blends slasher conventions with a muddled multiple-personality-disorder mythology that never coheres. The Riverton Ripper premise is intriguing but squandered through convoluted, inconsistent plotting and underdeveloped characters. Acting from the largely unknown young cast is uneven at best. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, lacking the visual flair of Craven's best work. The film recycles familiar slasher beats without adding meaningful novelty despite its quirky soul-transfer conceit. The ending tries to deliver a twist but feels forced and unsatisfying given the narrative confusion leading up to it.
