Escape Room (2017) is a low-budget horror-thriller that leans heavily on a premise that was already feeling worn by the time of release. The plot follows predictable death-game beats with thin characterization and telegraphed twists. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable across the board. Cinematography is functional at best, with little visual inventiveness to elevate the tension. The novelty is minimal — the escape room death-match concept had been explored in numerous prior films and the execution adds nothing distinctive. The ending is particularly weak, feeling abrupt and unsatisfying, failing to deliver any meaningful payoff or closure to the threadbare narrative.
