Quartile rating: 4.5/10 · 1 rating
When five friends vacation at a remote lake house, they expect nothing less then a good time, unaware that Earth is under attack by an alien invasion and mass-abductions.
The Recall is a low-budget Canadian sci-fi horror that combines familiar cabin-in-the-woods tropes with an alien invasion premise. The plot is predictable and derivative, recycling well-worn genre beats without meaningful subversion. Acting from the ensemble is serviceable at best, with Wesley Snipes providing the most memorable presence but underutilized. Cinematography is competent for its budget but unremarkable. The film offers little novelty, blending Alien Abduction and Cabin in the Woods formulas without a distinctive voice or execution. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying, failing to deliver a compelling resolution. Overall a below-average genre entry that doesn't distinguish itself in any meaningful category.
