The Informer (2019)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

The Quartile Take

The Informer is a competent but fairly conventional crime thriller. The plot follows a well-worn undercover informant template without surprising deviations, though it maintains tension through a labyrinthine web of competing loyalties. Acting is solid across the board — Joel Kinnaman is committed and credible, and the supporting cast including Rosamund Pike and Clive Owen deliver serviceable work. Cinematography is functional and gritty, befitting the genre without standing out. Novelty is low — the Polish mafia angle offers a mild wrinkle but the core mechanics are recycled thriller tropes. The ending feels rushed and somewhat unsatisfying, failing to fully pay off the tension built earlier.
