A woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution where she is confronted by her greatest fear.
Unsane is most notable for being shot entirely on an iPhone 7 Plus, giving it a claustrophobic, grainy, voyeuristic aesthetic that Steven Soderbergh wields with genuine craft — the cinematography is the film's standout quality. The premise of gaslighting and involuntary commitment has thriller potential, and Claire Foy delivers a committed performance, but the plot becomes increasingly conventional as it leans into slasher-adjacent territory, squandering its early psychological tension. The ending resolves without much satisfying payoff, feeling rushed and somewhat anticlimactic given the dread built up earlier.
