What happens when the undead return to life? In a world ravaged for years by a virus that turns the infected into zombie-like cannibals, a cure is at last found and the wrenching process of reintegrating the survivors back into society begins.
The Cured takes a genuinely interesting conceptual angle on zombie mythology — focusing on the social reintegration of cured former zombies who retain memories of their atrocities — which gives it more dramatic weight than typical genre fare. The Irish setting and political allegory (echoing the Troubles) add texture. However, the execution is uneven: the plot loses momentum in its second half, the ending feels abrupt and somewhat unsatisfying, and while the acting is competent it rarely elevates the material. Cinematography is functional and atmospheric but unremarkable. The novelty of its premise is its strongest asset, though it doesn't fully capitalize on it.
