Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
On Quartile, Greta scores 6/10 across five categories — strongest on Plot (Above Average), weakest on Cinematography (Below Average).
A young woman returns a lonely widow’s lost purse, leading to an unlikely relationship between the two — until the young woman discovers the widow might not be all that she seems.
Greta rises on the strength of Isabelle Huppert's gloriously unhinged performance, which elevates fairly standard stalker-thriller material into something genuinely watchable. The premise is familiar and the plot follows well-worn genre beats without much subversion. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable for the NYC setting. The film does little new with the psychological thriller template, feeling like a glossy throwback to 90s psycho-biddy thrillers. The ending resolves things in a disappointingly abrupt and unsatisfying way that undercuts tension built earlier.
