Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
Police commissioner Funes and three researchers of supernatural phenomena investigate inexplicable events that are occurring in the suburbs of Buenos Aires.
Terrified (Aterrados) is a standout in modern horror for its genuinely unsettling atmosphere and unconventional structure. Rather than a single haunted house narrative, it weaves multiple parallel paranormal threads simultaneously across neighboring houses, giving it a distinctive and disorienting quality rare in the genre. The Argentine setting and practical creature effects lend it an authentic, lo-fi dread that feels fresh compared to Hollywood horror conventions. Acting is serviceable and grounded, helping sell the bizarre scenarios. Cinematography is competent with some genuinely effective shot compositions, particularly around the dead child sequences. The ending, however, feels abrupt and incomplete, functioning more as a setup for a sequel than a satisfying conclusion, which undermines the overall impact of an otherwise memorable film.
