A girl and her friends find a game in the attic that summons a creature known as The Midnight Man, who uses their worst fears against them.
The Midnight Man is a fairly generic supernatural horror that follows well-worn territory: teenagers, a cursed game, a demonic entity exploiting fears. The plot is formulaic with few surprises beyond the dementia subplot involving the grandmother, which adds mild intrigue but isn't fully developed. Acting is mediocre across the board, with even veteran performers like Lin Shaye delivering workmanlike performances constrained by a weak script. Cinematography is competent with some decent atmospheric lighting and shadow work typical of the subgenre. Novelty is low — the 'summoning game gone wrong' premise has been done better elsewhere, and the film doesn't distinguish itself with any unique voice or approach. The ending is unsatisfying and predictable, failing to deliver meaningful payoff.
