The Quartile Take

Cam (2018) stands out for its genuinely distinctive premise — a camgirl's identity stolen by a doppelgänger through her own platform — which grounds horror in social media anxiety, sex work stigma, and digital identity in a way rarely explored. The screenlife-adjacent cinematography is purposeful and immersive, using streaming interfaces naturally rather than gimmickly. Madeline Brewer's performance is committed and carries the film through its more uncertain stretches. However, the ending fumbles its own mythology, offering neither satisfying resolution nor productive ambiguity, leaving the film's strongest ideas undercooked at the finish line. The plot is engaging but occasionally struggles to sustain its high-concept tension across the runtime.
