Emilia, a law-school graduate, falls in love with her married boss, Jack. After Emilia marries Jack, her happiness turns unexpectedly to grief following the death of her infant daughter. Devastated, Emilia nonetheless carries on, attempting to forge a connection with her stepson William and to resist the interference of Jack's jealous ex-wife.
The Other Woman (2010) is a quiet, character-driven drama that handles grief and blended-family tension with sincerity. The performances, particularly Natalie Portman, are committed and emotionally grounded, keeping the film watchable even when the narrative meanders. The plot covers familiar territory — infidelity, loss, stepfamily dynamics — without a particularly fresh angle, and the cinematography is understated to the point of being unremarkable. The ending offers modest emotional resolution but doesn't fully capitalize on the film's emotional groundwork. A decent but unexceptional drama.
