Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
With the world under attack by deadly creatures who hunt by sound, a teen and her family seek refuge outside the city and encounter a mysterious cult.
The Silence draws inevitable comparisons to A Quiet Place, released a year earlier, which largely overshadows its premise of sound-hunting creatures. The plot is formulaic post-apocalyptic survival fare with thin character development and a tacked-on cult subplot that feels underdeveloped. Acting is competent, with Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka delivering serviceable performances, but the script doesn't give them much to work with. Cinematography is generic and uninspired, lacking the visual tension the premise demands. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying, failing to resolve the cult thread meaningfully. Overall a derivative, middling genre entry.
