The Quartile Take

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a likable but uneven comedy that leans heavily on Will Ferrell's brand of earnest absurdism. The plot is formulaic — underdog dreamers face obstacles, find love, triumph — with few surprises and a predictable arc. Acting is serviceable; Rachel McAdams brings warmth and Dan Stevens steals scenes as a flamboyant rival, elevating the material above its script. Cinematography is competent and colorful, capturing the glitzy Eurovision aesthetic adequately without distinction. Novelty gets a modest bump for its specific, affectionate send-up of Eurovision culture, which gives the film a genuinely unique flavor few Hollywood comedies share. The ending, however, is saccharine and telegraphed well in advance, offering no emotional surprise.
