The Quartile Take

The Lie is a slow-burn thriller that builds tension through moral ambiguity and parental desperation. The plot keeps viewers engaged with its escalating deceptions, though it leans heavily on a familiar 'cover-up gone wrong' structure. Acting from Peter Sarsgaard and Joey King is solid and grounded, elevating the material. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable, with muted tones that suit the gloomy mood without distinguishing itself visually. As a remake, it lacks significant novelty, recycling the premise from the German film Wir Monster without adding much new. The ending delivers a genuine shock that recontextualizes events, which is its strongest asset.
