Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating
A destitute young man, raised by racist skinheads and notorious among white supremacists, turns his back on hatred and violence to transform his life, with the help of a black activist and the woman he loves.
Skin (2019) is a grounded, emotionally honest account of Bryon Widner's real-life exit from white supremacist culture. Jamie Bell delivers a physically and emotionally committed performance that elevates the material above its TV-movie premise. The plot follows a fairly familiar redemption arc without many surprises, and the cinematography is competent but unremarkable. The true-story basis gives it some authenticity and weight, though the overall narrative structure is conventional for the genre. The ending is satisfying but unsurprising, closing the loop on the redemption story cleanly rather than provocatively.
