The Perfect Date is a lightweight teen rom-com that hits every expected beat of the genre without much surprise. The premise of a fake-boyfriend app has some novelty on paper but the execution follows a formulaic YA trajectory. Noah Centineo's charisma carries the film further than the script deserves, while the cinematography is standard Netflix rom-com fare with little visual ambition. The ending resolves predictably, offering no subversions of expectations.
