In 1940s France, a new teacher at a school for disruptive boys gives hope and inspiration.

The Quartile Take

The Chorus is a warmly received French drama that follows a fairly conventional 'teacher inspires troubled students through music' arc, familiar from countless other films. Its emotional sincerity and charming performances give it genuine appeal, but the narrative beats are predictable. The cinematography is competent and period-appropriate without being visually distinctive. Acting is solid, particularly Gérard Jugnot as the compassionate teacher, but not exceptional. The ending is bittersweet and emotionally earned, fitting the film's tone well. Novelty is the weakest point — the premise and structure are well-trodden territory, and while the film executes it with heart, it offers little that is cinematically singular.
