In the distant future, Earth is occupied by ancient gods and genetically altered humans. When a god is sentenced to death he seeks a new human host and a woman to bear his child.
Immortal (2004) is a visually singular hybrid of live-action and CGI animation, adapting Enki Bilal's graphic novel bande dessinée into a genuinely one-of-a-kind aesthetic fever dream blending Egyptian mythology, noir sci-fi, and transhumanism. Its Novelty is undeniable — there is truly nothing else quite like it in tone or visual conception. However, the plot execution is muddled and hard to follow, the acting is stilted (partly due to the uncanny-valley character rendering and flat performances), and the ending is emotionally unsatisfying and abrupt. The cinematography earns a modest above-average for its distinctive color palette and surreal visual world-building despite the dated CGI.
