A talented photographer stuck in a dead-end job inherits an antique Advent calendar that may be predicting the future -- and pointing her toward love.
The Holiday Calendar is a serviceable Netflix holiday rom-com that benefits from a charming lead performance and a mildly inventive magical-realism premise involving a predictive Advent calendar. However, the plot follows well-worn genre conventions — the overlooked protagonist, the obvious love interest hiding in plain sight, the misunderstanding third act — without subverting them meaningfully. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable, with standard warm Christmas lighting and nothing visually distinctive. The ending resolves predictably, offering little surprise. The Advent calendar conceit gives it a small novelty bump above typical Christmas fare, but it doesn't fully exploit its own premise.
