Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda.
Final Destination 5 is widely regarded as the best entry in the later franchise, largely thanks to its genuinely clever twist ending that recontextualizes the entire film as a prequel — a rare narrative payoff in the series. The bridge collapse opening is a spectacular setpiece, and the 3D cinematography is among the more purposeful uses of the format in horror. The 'kill or be killed' rule adds a fresh wrinkle to the formula, earning it a slightly higher Novelty score than a typical franchise entry. Acting and plot remain serviceable franchise fare — death sequences are creative but the characters are thin and performances functional at best.
