A young bride's wedding night turns into her worst nightmare when her ridiculously rich in-laws force her to play a gruesome game of hide-and-seek.

The Quartile Take

Ready or Not is a lean, wickedly fun horror-comedy that earns its cult reputation largely on the strength of its explosive finale. The premise — a bride hunted through a Gothic mansion by her murderous in-laws — is simple but executed with real wit and escalating tension. The ending pays off the film's darkly comedic logic in a spectacularly gonzo fashion that few genre films dare to commit to fully. Acting is solid across the board, with Samara Weaving delivering a genuinely charismatic and physical lead performance, though most supporting roles lean into archetype. Cinematography is competent and atmospheric — the mansion is well-used — but not strikingly original. The concept, while not wholly new (The Most Dangerous Game lineage), is given enough class-satire edge and tonal confidence to feel distinct. No single category apart from the ending truly reaches exceptional territory.
