When the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory discovers a humanoid robot named Dorothy that's known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal which puts their lives at stake.
Space Sweepers is a visually impressive Korean space opera with genuinely stunning production design and cinematography that rivals Hollywood blockbusters on a fraction of the budget. The world-building is rich and the multicultural ensemble is charming, but the plot leans heavily on familiar found-family and corporate-villain tropes without much subversion. The acting is solid if uneven, with the leads bringing warmth but the antagonist feeling underdeveloped. The ending resolves too neatly and loses the gritty edge that made the earlier acts engaging, feeling rushed and overly sentimental.
