The Quartile Take

Fright Night (2011) is a competent remake that modernizes the 1985 cult classic to a Las Vegas suburbia setting. The plot follows the familiar beats closely enough to feel safe rather than inventive, and its remake status limits its Novelty score despite some fresh touches like Colin Farrell's menacing charisma. Acting is solid across the board — Farrell makes for a genuinely threatening vampire and David Tennant's Russell Brand-esque magician is entertaining, though Anton Yelchin is serviceable rather than standout. Cinematography is workmanlike horror-comedy fare with a few stylish moments but nothing visually distinctive. The ending resolves satisfyingly within genre conventions without surprising anyone. Overall a fun, well-executed but unremarkable remake.
