During the final days at the Yankee Pedlar Inn, two employees determined to reveal the hotel's haunted past begin to experience disturbing events as old guests check in for a stay.
Ti West's slow-burn horror earns points for atmosphere and naturalistic performances from Sara Paxton and Pat Healy, but the deliberately paced build-up leads to a finale that disappoints many viewers, feeling abrupt and undercooked relative to the tension accumulated. The Yankee Pedlar Inn setting is used effectively and the film has a distinctive laid-back comedic tone unusual for the genre, but the ghost story mechanics are fairly conventional. Cinematography is competent and moody without being visually remarkable.
