The Quartile Take

Fear Street: 1994 is a competent and entertaining slasher that blends 90s nostalgia with Scooby-Doo mystery energy and an LGBTQ+ lead romance. The plot is serviceable genre fare — familiar slasher beats elevated slightly by its serialized Netflix trilogy structure and R. L. Stine source material. Acting is solidly above average for the genre with Kiana Madeira carrying the film well. Cinematography is competent and atmospheric but not particularly distinguished. Novelty gets a bump for its refreshing queer-led horror premise and 90s period setting, though the slasher mechanics are well-worn. The ending, serving as a cliffhanger into Part 2, is functional but designed more to set up sequels than to satisfy on its own terms.
