SAS: Red Notice (2021)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

An off-duty SAS soldier, Tom Buckingham, must thwart a terror attack on a train running through the Channel Tunnel. As the action escalates on the train, events transpire in the corridors of power that may make the difference as to whether Buckingham and the civilian passengers make it out of the tunnel alive.

The Quartile Take

SAS: Red Notice is a formulaic action thriller that offers little beyond its well-worn 'lone soldier vs. terrorists in a confined space' premise. The Channel Tunnel setting provides mild tension but the plot is generic and predictable. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with Andy Serkis doing the most notable work as the villain. Cinematography is competent but uninspired for a mid-budget action film. Novelty is very low — the film is essentially a British take on a Die Hard clone with recycled story beats and by-the-numbers execution. The ending resolves things tidily without any particular impact.
