Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

The patriarch of a wealthy and powerful family suddenly passes away, leaving his wife and daughter with a shocking secret inheritance that threatens to unravel and destroy their lives.

The Quartile Take

Inheritance is a serviceable but largely formulaic thriller that leans heavily on melodramatic family-secrets tropes without subverting or elevating them. The plot, involving a man kept captive in a bunker by a wealthy patriarch, strains credibility and becomes increasingly ridiculous as it unfolds. Lily Collins and Simon Pegg give committed performances that rise above the material, though the latter's casting is oddly distracting. Visually, the film is competent but unremarkable, with little distinctive cinematography to set it apart from cable-TV thriller territory. The concept offers some initial intrigue but quickly settles into predictable revelations. The ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, failing to pay off the moral ambiguity it teases.
