Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating
A widowed new dad copes with doubts, fears, heartache and dirty diapers as he sets out to raise his daughter on his own. Inspired by a true story.
Kevin Hart delivers a genuinely strong dramatic-comedic performance that anchors the film above its familiar premise. The plot follows a well-worn single-parent journey without many surprises, and the cinematography is functional but unremarkable. Novelty is limited — the widowed-dad-raises-child story has been told many times in similar fashion. The ending is warm and emotionally satisfying but predictable. Hart's performance is the clear standout.
