The Quartile Take

Marry Me is a light, cheerful romantic comedy that leans heavily on familiar genre conventions. The plot — pop star marries a random stranger on a whim — is a fun premise but executed in entirely predictable fashion, hitting every expected beat with little surprise. Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson bring charm and likability to their roles, elevating the material somewhat, and Lopez's musical sequences add genuine energy. Cinematography is functional and glossy but unremarkable. The film breaks little new ground, recycling the fish-out-of-water and mismatched-worlds tropes without a distinctive voice. The ending is sweet but thoroughly telegraphed from the opening act.
