The Platform (2019)

Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating

A slab of food descends down a vertical facility. The residents above eat heartily, leaving those below starving and desperate. A rebellion is imminent.

The Quartile Take

The Platform's central conceit is a strikingly original and viscerally effective metaphor for class stratification and capitalism. The vertical prison structure is conceptually bold and genuinely distinctive, earning high marks for both Plot and Novelty. The acting is competent and serviceable but not exceptional — Ivan Massagué carries the film adequately without being transformative. Cinematography makes good use of the oppressive single-set verticality but doesn't transcend it into visual poetry. The ending is where the film stumbles: the ambiguous resolution feels deliberately obscure rather than meaningfully open, and the rebellion arc deflates rather than satisfies, leaving audiences more confused than contemplative.
