The inspiring true story of Richard Montañez, the Frito Lay janitor who channeled his Mexican American heritage and upbringing to turn the iconic Flamin' Hot Cheetos into a snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop culture phenomenon.

The Quartile Take

Flamin' Hot tells an energetic, feel-good underdog story with genuine cultural specificity and heart, elevated by Eva Longoria's vibrant direction and a charismatic lead performance. The Mexican-American cultural texture gives it warmth and identity. However, the plot follows a fairly conventional rags-to-riches arc without much structural surprise, and the ending feels abrupt and overly tidy — particularly given the later controversies surrounding Montañez's claims that emerged in real life. The cinematography is competent and lively but not especially distinctive. A solid, crowd-pleasing biopic that earns its reputation without breaking new ground in the genre.
