Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
An army ranger and his dog embark on a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway to attend a friend's funeral.
Dog (2022) is a fairly conventional buddy road-trip film with a predictable emotional arc centered on a grieving veteran and his traumatized military dog. The plot hits familiar beats without much surprise, and the premise, while charming, isn't particularly distinctive. Channing Tatum's performance is earnest and carries the film, elevating what could have been forgettable material. The cinematography captures the Pacific Coast scenery competently but without standout visual ambition. The ending lands emotionally but follows the expected redemptive trajectory. Overall a warm, watchable film that doesn't break new ground.
