A sea of animal rescuers — and a lonely boy in need of a friend – nurse an injured dolphin back to health after it loses its tail in a trap.
Dolphin Tale is a warm, family-friendly true story with decent emotional beats but follows a fairly predictable inspirational arc. The acting is solid, particularly from the young lead and Harry Connick Jr., but rarely transcends the genre's conventions. Cinematography is functional and serviceable without any distinctive visual flair. The premise of a prosthetic dolphin tail gives it a genuine novelty hook grounded in real events, lifting it above typical animal rescue fare. The ending is satisfying and uplifting but telegraphed early on.
