A group of friends think they found the perfect easy score - an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the elderly couple that lives there comes home early, the tables are suddenly turned. As a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues, the would-be thieves must fight to save themselves from a nightmare they could never have imagined.
The Owners delivers a reasonably effective home-invasion-reversal thriller with a decent premise — elderly homeowners turning the tables on would-be thieves — but executes it in largely formulaic fashion. The acting from Maisie Williams and Sylvester McCoy is serviceable but inconsistent among the cast. Cinematography is flat and unremarkable, failing to maximize tension through visual craft. The concept itself isn't particularly fresh within the genre, and the ending lands without enough impact or payoff to elevate it above its middling execution.
